March is Women’s History Month. Started in 1987, Women’s History Month recognizes all women for their valuable contributions to history and society. ON Semiconductor is constantly driving towards a more diverse workplace which benefits our company and enables us to more successfully meet the needs of all of our stakeholders - customers, suppliers, employees and shareholders worldwide.
Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day. First observed in 1911 in Germany, it has now become a major global celebration honoring women’s economic, political and social achievements. International Women's Day is about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action. This year’s campaign theme is #PressforProgress. We celebrate the successes we are able to achieve as a company through a culture of diverse thought, experiences and backgrounds.
This quarter, the ON Semiconductor women’s leadership charter has been updated to reflect recent development programs. The founding charter for the Women's Leadership Initiative is “empowering and supporting professional women to succeed through professional development in business, strategic and financial acumen.” To uphold this charter the following goals and objectives were established:
Create opportunities to develop and demonstrate business, strategic and financial acumen
Provide mentoring best practices as well as access to formal and informal mentors/coaches
Create networking opportunities both internally and externally to expand business and market perspectives
Encourage female leaders to help develop and promote the next generation of female leadership
Openly address and discuss unique challenges and provide tools to overcome them
ON Semiconductor values diversity which is embedded in our core values of respect, integrity and initiative. The unique gifts that each of us brings to work every day are key contributors to ON Semiconductor's success. To promote employee development and diversity recognition, our company's leadership team has been expanding the women's leadership initiative since its inception in Q2 2014.
This year the program will expand its global reach through regional committees, monthly committee meetings, trainings and roadshows. In March, the company will be hosting Women’s Leadership events in Malaysia, China and Korea. These events are instrumental in the next phase of our Diversity and Inclusion initiative as we roll-out the framework and strategy to our global sites in 2018 with the goal of retention and advancement of more women within the company. We want to energize participant aspirations and enable their path forward as a leader. During these roadshow events, participants will learn about the career success formula for women and men: Professional Competence + People Skills + Business Skills = Higher Leadership Positions and the importance of building your business, strategic and financial acumen (business skills).
In April of 2014, the Women's Leadership Initiative launched by our executive team for all employees with the ideals that both female and male employees can benefit from exploring and addressing some of the unique challenges that women face in the workplace. Since the launch, the Women's Leadership Initiative has grown to a fully inclusive, global initiative that has been strengthened, fostered and led ON Semiconductor executive leadership.
Since 2014, the Women's Leadership Initiative has held many lunch and learn sessions with guest speakers from different fields and walks of life, co-owned external networking events with other Phoenix engineering companies and hosted a speaking event with ON Semiconductor Board Member, Teresa Ressel. Outside of Phoenix there are Women's Leadership Initiative events across North America, in Europe and, most recently, in Asia.
